2.0.1-1 Debian issues adding parents

John Stoffel

[ This is a resend, Don might have gotten multiples of this... ]

Hi Don and crew,

I'm finally back to doing some test runs with 2.0.1-1 under Debian and
I've got an issue with entering data.  Basically, I'm working off a
family tree printout given to a distant cousin.  Not all the data is
complete (thought I'm using the sources stuff to list where I got the
data, cool).

Anyway, when I try to add both parents to a person, and all I have is
the First,Last for the father and the First for the mother, I can't
actually *select* these people.  They are in the DB, they have IDs, it
just won't let me choose them for some reason.

It puts up a popup window taling about how I can't select some people
because the filter setting won't let me.  But there's no option on the
"Choose Parent's" dialog to change the filter settings.

Also, when I'm adding parents to a female with a last name of "Gaunt",
why is the father defaulting to "Stoffel" instead of "Gaunt"?  The
mother selection box shows all ladies, except those who don't have
dates associated with them.

Here's what I did to get the error message:

1. Pick a lady without any parents entered into the DB at all.
2. Make her the active person and click on the "Add Parent's + button"
3. Choose Parent's dialog opens.  Both "Show All" unchecked.
4. Click on the "+" button in the upper right to add a father.
5. Enter the only details I have, a first name and a last name and a
   source.   Click the Ok button.
6. Up pops a error/warning dialogue "Added person is not visible"

   - This is really annoying, since I just explicitly added this
father, it should change the setting to SHOW that father and make
     them selected by default.

   - The wording is sub-optimal because there's no button labeled
"Filter" on the "Choose Parents" dialogue.

7. So I clock the "Close" button on the warning dialogue, then
checkmark the "show all" button for the Father.  But the newly
   entered person doesn't show up!!

8. Click the "cancel" button for the "Choose Parents" dialogue.

9. Click on the "People" icon to goto the people view, so where has
the person I just entered gone?  Why weren't they put into the
   database?

10. Go and select the same person I was with before in the poeple view
and move back to the family view.

11. Try to add a new set of parents again, but this time I click on
the "show all" boxes for both mother and father.  But I *still*
click on the "Plus" button to add a father.

12. Enter the First, Last name and a source.  Nothing else is touched.
Click on Ok.  And the damm warning pops up again, "Added person is
    not visible".

13. Click on "Close".  Back in the "Choose Parents" dialogue, without
selecting any parents, I click on "Ok", so it closes.

14. Click on the "People" view, and I still wonder where the father I
entered went?  I did enter a person, and even though I had "show
    all" clicked, it still complained.

So it's a multiple issue bug from my point of view:

a. I entered a new father explicitly, it should be selected by default
on return no matter what the filter says.

b. Entering a new person in the "Choose Parents" dialog is broken.

c. The wording on the warning/error dialogue needs fixing, just like
my use of the english spelling of dialog needs fixing.  *grin*.

Thanks,
John

John,

Thanks for the report. Fixes should be in place for the 2.0.2 release.

Thank you for the reply, I'm looking forward to 2.0.2 this weekend.
Maybe I'll try it earlier, but I'm busy with a bunch of other things
too lately.

John
