Access on gramps-addons

Benny Malengier
I'm too lazy to check right now who user "Koala" is.  Does anybody know his addon? Can anybody vouch for it?

His message on sourceforge:

"""
Hello,

I want to have write access in order to commit my developed Gramplet to the
repository. (following this tutorial: http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Addons_development )

regards,
Simon
""""

Greetings,
Benny

Re: Access on gramps-addons

Simon Lenz
Hey,

First of all: I am koala :)

Didn't know, that it is necessary, to post my addon here or somewhere
else before granting me write rights.
(But I can understand, that you don't want to have any clutter in there.)

The one, i wanted to upload is not really a big deal. It is my first
try in writing something for gramps.
It is a small gramplet which shows the user what has happened in the
database on the current date.
So if you open your database, you can see something like:
"Oh look, 110 years ago, my great-grantfather has married"

Not really the big deal (as i mentioned before), but for me kind of interesting.

If this doesn't match your criteria, I can understand and will try it
again with a new idea;)

regards,

Simon

Not necessary, just a small precaution before giving write privileges,
I suspect.

This is an interesting idea, and in fact there is a version of this
already in Gramps. If you add a Calendar Gramplet to any view, you can
double-click on a day and it will run the "On This Date" report which
shows events on this exact day, events during the selected month/year,
and events during the selected year.

Anyone can make an Addon, but it does perhaps overlap with existing
functionality, and there are many places where we have requested
functionality. See if you want to add to the existing gramplet, or if
yours really adds something new.

In reply to this post by Benny Malengier
In fact, he has also contacted me via sourceforge account!

I found its contributions on some projects using python (GitHub).
So, I added 'koala7' as members...

I limited access to svn (no shell) and I do not know why but I got a
problem with the message send as answer via sourceforge (maybe
redirection without identification?).

I planned to wait some days before disabling this new access if no
commit or untrusted/safe changes!

Re: Access on gramps-addons

Simon Lenz
Okay, Thanks for your replies!

I have to say, that Doug Blank's point on the calendar gramplet is correct.
It seems, that this makes exactly what i have done, only with one
click more and much more flexibility.
So my gramplet won't bring a really new functionality.

Therefore, you can restrict my svn-access again ;)

regards
Simon

Re: Access on gramps-addons

Dear Simon:

Even if Doug's might be better and more flexible, there is no reason
to re- restrict your access to gramps-addons!

What if you come up with a different idea and want to share it with
the gramps community?  We are always willing and ready for others to
extend or addon to gramps...

Sincerely yours,
Rob G. Healey
