Autofill for names

I'm new here so if this has already been discussed I apologize for repeating the question. I would like to know if it is possible to set GRAMPS so that it will autofill names or places instead of having to pick them out of a list every time. Even the search function may return 50 similar place names. In other genealogical software, autofill is turned on by default.
