Person Filter bug: "people without a known birth date" doesn't work correctly

Doug-11
My database has a birth date that got left dangling some
time in the
past and I'm trying to track down who it belongs to. I used
the Person
Filter for "people without a known birth date".

Although this correctly lists people without a birth event,
it misses
all those who have no birth date but do have a birth event.
There's
quite a number of those people: I don't know whether they
were produced
by Gramps or inherited from a Gedcom database; but anyway,
the filter
isn't doing what it says it does.

Is this a bug, or am I?

Doug

P.S.  Gramps 3.0.2-1 on Mandriva 2008.1

For what it's worth, I get the same result. The filter apparently looks
for missing birth events, and is therefore misnamed.

I also have births without dates, for example where (for the time being)
I know the place but not the date.

I wondered if you might be able to filter on "Birth date", using some
regexp such as "^$". But in fact regular expressions don't seem to be
implemented for this field: e.g. "[1]" and "[a]" return nothing, whereas
"a" gets me births with "about" and "1" gets me 2 peculiar results from
920 records: one birth with "1817 or 1818", one with "before 5 Sep
1826".

Agreed. If someone could file a bug, we can fix that.

There is a filter: "People with incomplete events" that is purported to
find those events with missing dates.

The Statistics Gramplet will count and allow a Quick View on "Individuals
missing birth dates" (double-click it). It finds missing birth events, and
birth events without dates, and identifies both. Double-click the person
in the Quick View to edit.

The date fields assume a properly formatted date, so no, that won't work.
If it isn't a properly formatted date, it tries a string match.

Martin,

Thanks very much - that's really a nice facility indeed.
Although it does get round the problem, I think it's worth reporting a
bug, just to get the ambiguity cleared up.

I'll do that, as you suggest.
