Re: [Gramps-bugs] "bug report"

Benny Malengier
David,

We have a user mailing list for these kind of questions, please subscribe.
People can correct me then.

Anyway, here goes:

Hi Benny,

Rebuilding the indices did do the trick. I did run the database checking tool several times but that didn't find an issue.

Couple of other questions, if you would be so kind:

1. Is there a way to do a global search and replace

Not sure what you mean. You can always extract the .gramps file to an xml file, then search replace on that with eg sed command or emacs or kate (replace option with regex is powerfull here).

2. Is there a way to mark certain notes private (I have research notes that include e-mails, social security numbers, etc.)

Yes, click on the small lock icon you see on the editors. The lock will change from open to closed.

3. How can I create a more sophisticated export filter than the four types provided?

Not much possible here. In version 2.2.x the best export is given with GEDCOM export, which is a person based export. So you make a filter with the persons you want.
Read http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Example_filters and pages linked there for examples on custom filters. All person filters will show up in the export of GEDCOM.

Benny

Thanks,

David

David,

something is seriously wrong with your database.
Do you have a backup to work from?  For your continued work, it would be best to continue working in a new grdb from your last backup. This to be 100% sure your real work does not suffer from testing.

About your bug, it looks like some key tables are wrong. Did you try on your database giving problems to run the tool 'rebuild secondary indices', and then 'rebuild reference maps'
Does that work? Can you now export to .gramps?

If you have no recent backup of your data, you could try to dump your database instead, and see if that works, see the entry: <a href="http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Recover_corrupted_grdb#The_environment_is_lost" target="_blank" onclick="return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)"> http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Recover_corrupted_grdb#The_environment_is_lost

Let me know how it goes.

Benny

This will mark the complete person private, or am I wrong? Do you mean
the little lock icon right next to the "Marker"?

Re: [Gramps-bugs] "bug report"

Benny Malengier
Yes, that little icon. And indeed, this will make the person private. Note is a part of the person object.

In future version 3.0 notes will be separate objects, that can be private regardless of the person they belong too. I estimated 3.0 to arrive in the spring.
