Wiki 3.0 manual => Wiki 3.1 manual

Nick Wallingford-2
Later this morning, I'm going to be automating the process of creating
the wiki pages for the 3.1 version of the manual.  It might be a good
idea to avoid making dramatic changes in the interim - particularly to
the pages that that 3.0 in the titles!

Rather than each translator needing to create all pages, they'll be
starting out with the 3.0 version of their pages with a new title to
reflect the 3.1 version, and with the 3.0 replaced with 3.1 throughout.
Page creators will be retained, but the new pages will not have any
'history'...

As soon as that is done, we'll be locking changes to the 3.0 manual
pages to restrict further changes - the new edits should be done into
the 3.1 pages.

Any comments or warnings before action?  I'll have a backup to fall back
to, as always...

Thanks, Nick! Sounds like a solid plan.

Re: Wiki 3.0 manual => Wiki 3.1 manual

Nick Wallingford-2
Only issue I've come up with is that mediawiki does not readily allow
for granular access rights.  I had hoped/thought we could set up a new
group and allow read access for the 3.0 manual to all users as normal,
but restrict edits to that group.

Can't do it that way, it seems.

I will still protect the pages from edits, but only those with sysop
capability will be able to edit...

Ah, well - a comment somewhere was "mediawiki is not a CMS"...

A pity, but not too important. I'm sure changes to 3.0 at this moment will be small. We have to keep in mind that the 2.2.x manual also was not complete, and as that was shipped with the software, was a once install never change thing.

You have done a great job.

In reply to this post by erik op gmail
did you run ./autogen.sh ?
Many things changed, so the makefiles must be remade before running make
