Hello Tina,
Step one is that you now back up the gbkg files, and keep them safe. If needed you can send these to somebody to help. I don't know the install structure of Gramps on windows for AIO, I hope somebody of the windows team answers here with indication of where you can look for your files. Search your filesystem for .gbkp files. Normally, a directory with .gbkp files also contains .db files and a file named name.txt. Open this last name.txt file to see what family tree this is. Is it the correct one? I don't know if the recovery tools for the database are installed on windows. Trying to run these on the backup files is an option, see http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Recover_corrupted_family_tree Problem with the automatic backup is however that you save a backup on close of a family tree, so if you open gramps and something is wrong, and you close gramps anyway, then your old backups are overwritten with backup of the data that is wrong! Benny 2012/4/17 <[hidden email]> Hi my name is Tina. I downloaded Gramps last year and I'm afraid I've lost most of the data I've spent that last couple of months inputting. I thought I had backed up the database, but now I can't find where that was. I'm working on a computer running windows vista I believe with Gramps 3.3.1 (AIO v.2). I have checked and there are these gbkg files, but they wouldn't work when I tried renaming them to db files. I'm feeling pretty desperate, please let me know if you can be of assistance, or if there is any hope (even if you aren't the right person for me to contact at this stage). I thank you for your time in reading this correspondence. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Better than sec? This file can be unzipped to GrampsAIO\bin folder and used from there (should i include this files in next bundle also?) Next just follow instructions on links Benny give. Allways do backup first!!! And work only with copy. -- Josip ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Better than sec?
