I don't know what this is.

It sounds like Gramps has complained, then gone ahead without Graph
View. That's okay, the absence of Graph View shouldn't stop you.

Are you trying to open an existing Gramps' family tree, or trying to
import e.g a gedcom file into a new family tree? If the latter, let
Gramps open with its empty database, then use the Family Trees menu to
create and load a new family tree, and import into that. The following
steps should work:

Family Trees > Manage Family Trees (use the New button here, name the
new tree, then use the Load Family Tree button).

Family Trees > Import (to load your data file).

That should never be necessary! If you get stuck, and don't mind
sending a developer your file, I'd be glad to migrate it to a current
version of Gramps.

(This would be a great webservice: upload your old Gramps file, and
download a new version.)

2-3 years ago and I suppose a new python/gramps/linux distribution
environment, right ?

If so, you should have a look at:

Be warned we have seen other gramps users complain that
the Unity software in Ubuntu 11.10 has made problems in
running gramps.  (I don't run Ubuntu myself; sorry.)  See:
http://www.gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=5594#c23244

Do you get the main gramps window?  Does it look normal?
(You say you have been using gramps for a few years.)  If so,
do you have an icon in the upper-left called something like
"Family Trees" (in French, I guess, for you)?  If so, do you see
your old family tree listed there?  If so, can you select it? Load it?

Yes, we have seen other complains about this problem.
It has been fixed in the last week or so (which of course
does not help you).  It is possible (using Help==> Plugin
Manager) to tell gramps to ignore that "Graph View" plugin;
I don't know if that will help with your problem, though.

> Finally, Gramps opens with an empty database.

That suggests to me that you now have (at least) two
databases, two family trees.  So I am hoping you will be
able to select your real one by using the "Family Trees"
icon I mentioned above.  If it doesn't work we can try a
different way to open it.

Sinon, envoyez moi une copie de votre fichier en privé (hors mailing liste).

Gramps v3.3.1 auto-converted from 3.2.3.  Because they are so close in
version?

A grdb is an old filetype of gramps.
We don't have sufficient test data to test upgrade of that working.

You should install the old version of gramps (gramps 2.2 or gramps
3.0) and try to open the grdb with those programs, and export to xml
format (.gramps). Then import the xml in the current gramps.
Developers still run those old versions from source, that is why it
might be easiest to send the grdb to Doug to convert it for you.

Note however that you must send the grdb from backup, not one that you
already tried to 'convert'. The act alone of trying to open a database
file with the database software touches some log settings, which can
mean the data is corrupted afterward!

Version 3.0+ of gramps no longer works with grdb files due to these
kind of problems.
