The Church was subsequently sawed in half and moved by mules to a location on the Sabanna River about 3 miles southwest of De Leon in about 1923. Morton Chapel Church was named after Uriah Jackson Morton, one of the founders of the Church. The Church was established in 1910 during the "Alabama Reunion" organized by John Ledford Nabors, another founder of the Church. Thomas Warren Morgan was the other founder of the Church. Uriah Jackson Morton, Malvina Kiker, Rufus Alston Morton, Julia Louiser Morton, Margaret Viean Morton, Mary Ellen Morton, Eunice Abigail Morton, Martha Alvarenah Morton, John Ledford Nabors, Sara Anna Toland, Tula Eudevella Nabors, and Otho Grady Nabors were the Charter Members. The Church celebrated it's 100-Year Anniversery in 2010 and continues to meet each Sunday morning at 10:00 AM.
