python library

dr Zana János
While opening any data base I get this error message:

[15438.111069] python[23303]: segfault at b966000 ip b702b6c8 sp
bfcc7010 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.3200.4[b6fdd000+fb000]

The sytem is debian wheezy, the gramps fits to this debian version.
I tried with reinstalling all the packages related to gramps.
The error message again and again the same.

What is your suggestion?   János

I suggest that you obtain a backtrace using gdb:

When doing this, please note that the document mentions src/gramps.py
and Gramps.py. Since you never have both in a single Gramps setup,
please use src/gramps.py when running 3.x, and Gramps.py for 4.x.

regards,

Enno

My official version is the gramps 3.4.0-1
python -m trace -t /usr/share/gramps/gramps.py        gained a lot of
output. It ends:

dbman.py(338):             value = self.top.run()
  --- modulename: warnings, funcname: _show_warning
warnings.py(26):     if file is None:
warnings.py(27):         file = sys.stderr
warnings.py(28):     try:
warnings.py(29):         file.write(formatwarning(message, category,
filename, lineno, line))
  --- modulename: warnings, funcname: formatwarning
warnings.py(38):     s =  "%s:%s: %s: %s\n" % (filename, lineno,
category.__name__, message)
warnings.py(39):     line = linecache.getline(filename, lineno) if line
is None else line

linecache.py(14):     lines = getlines(filename, module_globals)
  --- modulename: linecache, funcname: getlines

linecache.py(38):         return cache[filename][2]
linecache.py(15):     if 1 <= lineno <= len(lines):
linecache.py(16):         return lines[lineno-1]
warnings.py(40):     if line:
warnings.py(41):         line = line.strip()
warnings.py(42):         s += "  %s\n" % line
warnings.py(43):     return s
/usr/share/gramps/gui/dbman.py:338: PangoWarning: Invalid UTF-8 string
passed to pango_layout_set_text()
   value = self.top.run()
  --- modulename: DisplayState, funcname: modify_statusbar
DisplayState.py(548):         view = self.viewmanager.active_page
DisplayState.py(549):         if not isinstance(view, NavigationView):
DisplayState.py(550):             return

My second attempt

zana:~# python -O /usr/share/gramps/gramps.py

I don't understand these outputs.

The error occurs when loading the family tree manager dialog.  It looks
like a localisation issue.

Try running Gramps in English with:

LANG=en_US.utf8 python /usr/share/gramps/gramps.py

Do you still get the error?

You could try upgrading Gramps from 3.4.0 to 3.4.8.

Nick.

I want to upgrade, later. Now I am collecting data.
Thanks,  János
